Learn to make these fish balls using fresh tilapia fillets mixed with flour and cornstarch along with other spices and colorful vegetables.

Ingredients for this Tilapia Fish Balls Recipe

Here are the simple ingredients that you will need to make this fish balls using tilapia fish:

  • 1 pound tilapia fish
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch powder
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 small white onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • 1 piece green onions, finely chopped
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon iodized salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 cups vegetable oil, for deep frying

You will also need the following kitchen tools and utensils:
  1. 10 pieces Bamboo Skewers
  2. Wok
  3. Large Bowl
  4. Spatula
  5. Stainless Steel Fork
  6. Disposable Food Handling Gloves

Procedures on How To Make Fish Ball Using Tilapia Fish Fillets

Here are the step by step procedures on how to make these delicious and nutritious tilapia fish balls:

1.  Cook the tilapia slices in a skillet with boiling water.

I added one (1) cup of water in a skillet then allow it to boil on medium heat.  I added the tilapia slices and cooked the fish for about 15 minutes.

2. Make tilapia fillets by mashing the fish meat using a fork.

After the tilapia slices are thoroughly cooked on all sides, I completely drained and transferred the fish slices into a bowl.  I used a stainless steel fork to mash and break the tilapia slices into fish fillets.

3.  In a bowl, add the dry ingredients except the vegetables.

In a large bowl, I added the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, iodized salt, and ground black pepper.  Mix well using a spatula.

4.  Add the chopped vegetables to the mixture.

After mixing the dry ingredients, add the chopped white onions, minced garlic, grated carrots, finely chopped green onions, and the water.

5.  Mix all the ingredients well until blended.

Mix the vegetables with the rest of the ingredients using the spatula.

6.  Cover bowl with cling wrap then chill in the fridge for an hour.

I used a cling wrap to cover the bowl then I placed the bowl in the fridge for 1 hour.  This will allow the excess moisture to be absorbed in the mixture so it is easier to mold the fish fillets into fish balls later on.

7.  Form tilapia fish balls using your hand.

I put on a disposable food handling glove on my left hand and then used it to squeeze and form fish balls.

8.  Drop the fish balls in hot oil.

I placed the 4 cups of vegetable oil in the wok and then waited for it to be heated over medium heat.  I then placed the first batch of fish balls into the heated oil.

9.  Deep fry tilapia fish balls until golden brown.

I deep fried twelve (12) pieces of tilapia fish balls in each batch.

10.  Remove fried tilapia fish balls from oil.

Once the fish balls are cooked and golden brown in color, remove these from heat using a metal strainer.

11.  Place five (5) pieces of tilapia fish balls in a bamboo skewer.

Once all the tilapia fish balls are cooked and all done, place 5 pieces of fish balls into each bamboo skewer then transfer these to a plate.

12.  Serve tilapia fish balls with your favorite fish ball sauce.
